The Lowry Avenue Bridge Replacement project was a new steel tied-arch bridge that replaced the original Lowry Avenue structure, a 5-span truss bridge built in 1905. Extending across the Mississippi River in Minneapolis, the original bridge lasted over 50 years before its first major renovation. Bridge updates were completed in 1958 and 2003.

In 2009, the bridge was closed and demolished due to safety concerns. The reconstruction of this historic structure started with the new Lowry Avenue Bridge project in 2009 and was completed during the Summer of 2012. Multivista initiated photographic progress documentation of the structure in Fall 2009 with the Site Survey Exact-Built® photo shoot of all pre-existing conditions near the project site. In Spring 2010, Multivista began documenting the Exterior Progression of the site, as well as Bridge Deck Pre-Slab Exact-Built® conditions. As construction progressed, Multivista was onsite to capture other bridge-specific shoots including the East and West Abutments, Pile Caps, Pier Pods, Footings Exact-Built®, Bridge and Railroad Decks, and Sand Filters. Multivista performed Monthly Progression Documentation, as well as Slideshow Documentation.

Multivista’s documentation service has had a profound impact on our team communication, collaboration, and the life cycle continuity for the Lowry Avenue Bridge project overall. FINAL THOUGHTS

Other construction milestones were documented specifically for the project including the Deck Spans and Slabs, Stay Cable, Arch installation, East and West Retaining Walls, SWPP Conditions and the Underwater Treatment Interceptor.

Between November 2009 and project completion in early September 2012, 14,238 high-resolution photos of the construction process for this project were captured to document progress and as-built conditions.
