The NYPD’s new $1.5B Police Academy facility, NYC’s largest public building project, makes modern advances for the men and women in blue.
For decades, the New York Police Department (NYPD) has been operating out of aged facilities that are scattered throughout the five boroughs of New York City. The facilities are significantly outdated, inefficient, and have been outgrown. Construction of the potential LEED Silver $1.5B police academy in Harlem will provide the NYPD with the space and technology necessary to accommodate their 21st century needs.
The new police academy, a nearly 1.6M SF complex, will improve efficiency, allowing all NYPD personnel to report to one centralized, state-of-the-art location for interactive training, testing, and other field operations. Energy-efficient initiatives such as a central utility plant, green roofs, bio-filtration for storm water runoff, and a high-performance building envelope are also being implemented to sustain the academy’s needs well into the future.
In line with these efficiency initiatives, Multivista’s state-of-the-art construction documentation has been enlisted.
